Today, Tuesday, November 18, as part of Cairo Industry Days within the 46th Cairo International Film Festival, the workshop titled « Her Story… Her Strength: Closing the Gender Gap in Cinema » will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Sofitel Hotel – Obelisk 2, with attendance limited to badge holders.
Participants in the session include Elizabeth Gastad, Dr. Rasha Asfour, Emirati director Nayla Al Khaja, and actress Nahed El Sebai, with moderation by Dr. Mervat Abu Awf.
The workshop highlights the increasing influence of women behind the camera—as directors, producers, and specialists in technical and creative fields—and how this presence reshapes cinematic storytelling through a “female gaze” that provides new angles and deeper, more diverse interpretations in on-screen narratives.
The session also addresses the role of actresses in changing the portrayal of women on screen and dismantling traditional stereotypes associated with female representation. It discusses strategies to empower female voices and promote gender equality at all stages of film production.
This event is part of the professional series by Cairo Industry Days, dedicated to fostering knowledge exchange and supporting women’s presence in both Arab and international cinema.
