Cairo International Film Festival is pleased to announce the selection of the feature film « The Blue Trail » (O Último Azul) as the opening film of its 46th edition, held from November 12 to 21, 2025. The film will be screened out of competition.
Directed by Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Mascaro, the film tells the story of Tereza, a 77-year-old woman living in a small industrial town in the Amazon, until she receives an official order to relocate to a senior housing colony. In this isolated place, the elderly are taken to spend their final years while the younger generation dedicates itself to productivity and growth. Tereza refuses this fate and embarks on a journey along the Amazon River to fulfill one last wish before her freedom is taken away—a decision that will change her life forever.
The film is a co-production between Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and the Netherlands, starring Denise Weinberg, Rodrigo Santoro, Miriam Socorrás, and Adanilo. Gabriel Mascaro, born in Brazil in 1983, has won more than 50 international awards. His film « Neon Bull » was selected among The New York Times’ Top Ten Films of 2016, and his film « Divine Love » was featured in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival.

Cairo International Film Festival was established in 1976, becoming the first international film festival held in the Arab world and Africa, and the only one in the region accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). It is classified as a Category « A » festival and is held annually under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
