As part of the Cairo Industry Days activities held during the 46th Cairo International Film Festival, the Open-Air Theatre at the Cairo Opera House hosts today, Sunday, November 16, a lecture titled “Cinematic Reflections: A Journey into the Worlds of Nuri Bilge Ceylan,” from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The session will be moderated by film critic Ahmed Shawky, President of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) and the European Film Critics Association (EFCA).
This lecture offers an exceptional encounter with the world-renowned Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who serves as the President of the International Jury in the 46th edition and is recognized as one of the foremost contemporary filmmakers worldwide. Ceylan is celebrated for his measured realism, poetic imagery, and unique ability to capture the fine details of the human experience with philosophical depth and artistic sensitivity.
His visual works, known for their meticulous compositions and cinematic language imbued with humanistic and contemplative dimensions, have earned major awards at the Cannes Film Festival. Ceylan’s creativity extends beyond cinema, with his photographic works exhibited internationally, reflecting the same meditative spirit and visual depth characteristic of his films.
This session provides a rare opportunity to delve into Ceylan’s cinematic philosophy, understand his approach to the language of the image, and explore how he constructs living human worlds filled with questioning, exploration, and social awareness—all portrayed through a vision that transcends borders and cultures.
The lecture is part of a series of events aiming to create space for dialogue with globally influential filmmakers and deepen artistic awareness among both creators and audiences.
