Cairo International Film Festival Returns to Marché du film de Cannes with a Joint Pavilion with El Gouna Film Festival and the Egypt Film Commission

As part of joint efforts to enhance the presence of Egyptian cinema on the international stage and position Egypt as an attractive destination for film production, the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) has announced its return to Marché du film de Cannes )Cannes Film Market( through a joint pavilion, in collaboration with the El Gouna Film Festival and the Egypt Film Commission (EFC).
The Egyptian joint pavilion will be held during the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival and aims to achieve several key objectives, including:
• Strengthening collaboration between Egyptian and Arab film festivals.
• Supporting filmmakers by exploring opportunities for co-productions.
• Showcasing Egypt as a premier filming destination, highlighting the opportunities available for international productions, with the EFC having successfully attracted over 60 international productions.
• Supporting emerging Egyptian talents by organizing panel discussions and networking events to foster collaborations with global industry professionals.
Hussein Fahmy, President of the Cairo International Film Festival, stated:
« We are delighted to see Egypt making a strong return to the Cannes Film Market through a national pavilion that brings together the country’s two leading film festivals, alongside the Egypt Film Commission. Through this pavilion, we aim to spotlight Egyptian cinema—both contemporary and classic—offering a distinguished image of Egypt after a long absence. »
Mohamed Tarek, Artistic Director of the Cairo International Film Festival, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, saying:
« This pavilion represents an ambitious return, with three major entities joining forces to support the Egyptian film industry. It serves as a platform to introduce the two festivals and the commission, engage in discussions with other Arab film festivals on the future of Arab cinema, and highlight Egypt’s appeal as a filming destination. »
The Egyptian pavilion will host a variety of events, including:
• Panel discussions on the future of Egyptian and Arab cinema, as well as the challenges facing the industry.
• Networking receptions to foster connections between Egyptian and global film professionals.
This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to support Egypt’s film industry and keep pace with global cinematic developments. It also reflects the commitment of CIFF, El Gouna Film Festival, and the Egypt Film Commission to empowering young talent and strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional hub for filmmaking.
